We offer a variety of health and fitness classes and sports programs to help motivate and inspire the Greenwich community. With a diverse range of adult fitness classes to accommodate all ages and fitness levels, our health and fitness program has something for everyone. Whether you’re interested in group exercise or personal training sessions to help you achieve a fitness goal, or simply looking to unwind with a yoga class, our facility is sure to have a program to meet your needs.

Badminton
Play this timeless and exciting game that requires aerobic stamina, agility, explosive strength, speed and precision. Badminton runs all year. To play, just sign in at the Front Desk. Included in Full Membership.
Play from December to Mid-March subject to change. $20/day (Affiliate Member) $30/day (Non-Member)

Fitness Center
With a fully equipped Fitness Center, spinning studio, indoor pool, yoga studio, and gymnasium, our facility allows our guests to explore a variety of fitness classes in a warm, positive, and inclusive setting that allows you to relax and focus on your workout.- Clean and modern locker rooms include showers, steam and sauna

Group Exercise & Classes
Working out with others is a great way to stay motivated and have fun while reaching your fitness goals! Whether you're looking to unwind, improve your balance, strength, or master a specific skill or sport, our group fitness classes are exactly what you have been looking for. Our certified fitness instructors help members with proper form to enhance their skills, while also motivating you to meet your personal goals.
Build Strength and Endurance
Adult Ballet– Classes are based on classical ballet technique, which emphasize balance, coordination, flexibility and posture, using the ballet barre and center floor work.
Badminton – A fun, inclusive way to practice or improve your badminton skills for all ages and competitive levels.
Balance and Strength – Balance and strength go hand in hand. Learn why and how to improve both in this class dedicated to our seniors
Barre – A highly focused, low impact, total body workout that connects mind and body to create lean muscle.
Barre and Core – A class that combines the strength and toning components of Barre along with extra focus on core work.
Boutelle – Designed to improve posture, body alignment, flexibility, and muscle tone using strength movements set to live piano music.
Cardio Strength – Combining the benefits of aerobic exercise and body weight strength training into one total body workout.
Fit in 5 – A strength class dedicated to prime mover muscle groups for 5 minutes each using 30 second intervals.
H.I.I.T Body Weight – High Intensity Interval Training combines strength and aerobic elements in a circuit format using only body weight.
Kettlebells– Utilize kettlebell weights in a multitude of strength movements. Kettlebells are designed to involve the core more than traditional dumbbells due to their weight distribution.
Pickle Ball– A fun sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. Played both indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court and a slightly modified tennis net. Played with a paddle and a plastic ball.
Pilates– Engage your core, while focusing on alignment and precision.
Spin – Gain strength, build endurance, and tone your lower body by cycling through a series of non-impact movements driven by music. Performed on stationary bikes with adjustable resistance.
Spin & Sculpt– A traditional spinning class followed by 15 minutes of weight training focused on upper body sculpting and toning using hand weights and resistance bands.
Strength with Dumbbells– Challenge yourself with total body resistance based circuits to build strength and muscle.
TABATA– A high-intensity interval training that consists of eight sets of fast-paced exercises each performed for 20 seconds interspersed with a brief rest of 10 seconds.
Weight & Core – Develop total body strength and core engagement in this resistance training class dedicated to our seniors.

Seniorcize – Strengthen muscles and balance with this moderately-paced aerobic exercise.
Senior Strength – Provides strength training in a safe and controlled environment.
Senior Stretch- Work on your mobility and flexibility in order to improve your quality of movement in this class dedicated to our seniors.
Stretch & Restore - Beginning Hatha yoga practice for seniors. Balances body & mind by combining breath, body alignment and awareness while focusing on strength, flexibility, and relaxation.
Tai Chi– A martial art form using slow flowing movements to increase energy, improve coordination, and achieve inner peace.
Weight & Core – Develop total body strength and core engagement in this resistance training class dedicated to our seniors.
Yoga
Yoga – Embrace your day with a yoga practice to gain flexibility, strength, balance, and sensitivity in mind, body, and spirit. Mixed level class that uses props to help correct alignment, adjust positioning, and support us in the different postures.Vinyasa Yoga – The term vinyasa refers to the alignment of movement and breath, a method which turns static asanas into a dynamic flow.

Meet Our Staff
Sue Cavataro
Sue joined the YWCA Greenwich staff in 2003. Since then, she has worked as a personal trainer, spin instructor and with the YWCA Dolphins’ swim team as a strength and conditioning coach. A twenty-five year fitness veteran, Sue earned her Masters in Exercise Physiology at Adelphi University. Sue completed her undergraduate studies at SUNY-Cortland, where she majored in Physical Education and competed on the school’s volleyball team. Outside of her work, Sue competes in half-marathons and triathlons.Shree Mickelson
Shree specializes in personal training and group exercise at the YW. She trained at the American Council of Exercise, where she also earned her personal training certificate. Shree, a certified Hatha Yoga teacher, often incorporates Yoga methods into her client’s workouts. Understanding the link between physical activity, health and well-being, Shree is dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles by providing safe exercise programs that meet her clients’ fitness goals. She is a certified EMT and volunteer with Greenwich Emergency Medical Services.
Brendan Stote
Brendan joined the YWCA staff in 2009 after earning his personal training license through Expert Rating. Brendan got started in fitness at age eight as a student of the martial arts. Brendan implements a combination of weight training and aerobics to help his clients, ranging from NFL players to senior citizens, reach their highest potential. When he is not working with his clients, Brendan trains extensively for martial arts and power-lifting competitions. His honors include becoming the youngest inductee to the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2006. Brendan also holds state, national and multiple world records for power-lifting in the 308-lb division. His diverse fitness background has made Brendan passionate about helping clients of all sizes, ages and athletic abilities.
Garrett Withiam
Assistant Director of Health and Fitness for YWCA GreenwichGarrett has more than 10 years experience in the field of sports medicine and specializes in optimizing movement mechanics and strength through progressive exercise. Garrett is a Certified Athletic Trainer through the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and CPR/AED certified through the American Red Cross. As a personal trainer, Garrett creates individualized training programs for his clients based on their goals, abilities and overall health, and he's head of the training program for seniors at the YWCA. He is also the head strength and conditioning coach for our baseball program where he trains athletes from grade school to high school ranging from beginner level to college recruits. Prior to joining the YWCA staff, Garrett worked in a physical therapy clinic for seven years before becoming the co-head of content development and customer service for a fitness systems company. Throughout his professional career Garrett has had the opportunity to work with some of the top minds in the sports performance, biomechanics, and physical therapy fields and enjoys bringing his knowledge and passion to the YWCA community.
Kyle Wirtz
Director of Health and Fitness for YWCA GreenwichKyle has more than 15 years experience in the field of health and wellness and sports management. Kyle is CPR/AED certified through the American Heart Association and is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. In addition to providing personal training for clients, Kyle is responsible for all youth gymnastics, dance, golf, tennis programs and the new YWCA Greenwich baseball team. Kyle is also responsible for the fitness center and group exercise classes, and oversees the badminton club.

Pickleball
Be a part of the newest fitness craze: Pickleball. Pickleball is a fun sport that combines the elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. Our indoor courts, newly constructed of a poured rubber surface, are perfect for pickleball and easy on knees and ankles! YWCA Greenwich offers open play for experienced players as well as supervised/instructional play, beginning November 29 with Greenwich High School Tennis Coach, Betsy Underhill.
For outdoor enthusiasts, YWCA Greenwich has two outdoor courts available with a reservation throughout the year.
