Kisha Mitchell Richards, MD

Dr. Kisha Mitchell Richards was born and raised in Montego Bay, Jamaica. She received her degree in medicine from the University of the West Indies and completed her residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the George Washington University School of Medicine. She is board-certified in Anatomic, Clinical Pathology, and Forensic Pathology. In 2007, she joined Yale University School of Medicine, and in 2016, Dr. Mitchell Richards joined the Pathology Practice at Greenwich Hospital becoming Director of Pathology and Laboratory Services in 2018.

At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, Dr. Mitchell Richards led a team that implemented the first COVID-19 hospital drive-thru testing site in Connecticut. This facilitated early diagnosis and management, including appropriate quarantine to help limit the spread of COVID-19 at a critical time. For her critical role, she was one of the recipients of the United Hospital Fund 2021 Excellence in Health Care Award for Quality Improvement Champions. During the pandemic, Dr. Mitchell Richards served as a member of panels to address vaccine hesitancy in Connecticut and the Tri-State area, and periodically volunteered as a COVID-19 vaccinator in Stamford and educator in Greenwich and Stamford.

Dr. Mitchell Richards serves as chair of the Curriculum Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), where she is Vice Chair of their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. She is a founding member of the Society of Black Pathologists. Dr. Mitchell Richards serves as the Chair of the Board of Trustees at the Long Ridge School. She is also Chair of the Long Ridge School Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committee.

Her professional interests include making pathology more accessible to patients, improving health literacy, and in doing so, mitigating the negative impacts of health inequity and improving patient care, particularly to historically underserved communities. Dr. Mitchel Richards was the first recipient of the Philip McWhorter Greenwich Hospital Physician of the Year Award in 2021.

Dr. Mitchell Richards and her husband Amarfio live in Stamford with their two boys, Yves and Zaza, along with Kisha’s parents.
