Dr. Kamlani is a non-profit board member, policy advisor, political economist and former banking executive who has lived and worked in the US, Europe and Asia. She first moved to Greenwich over 20 years ago where she has been an active and engaged member of the community.

Dr. Kamlani received her BA, summa cum laude, from Columbia University and her MSc (Hons.) and PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

She enjoyed a 22-year banking career at JP Morgan where she built and led businesses in a number of areas, including institutional asset management, loan syndications, credit risk policy and Fortune 100 client coverage. She worked on landmark acquisition financings, founded the private bank’s hedge fund and private equity practice, and acted as an advisor to central banks across Asia during the 1997 financial crisis.

Following her banking and academic careers, Dr. Kamlani became increasingly involved in civic and educational non-profit work. She currently serves as Civics Chair of the League of Women Voters of Greenwich and as a Director of the Case Method Institute for Education and Democracy in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Her focus is on protecting and strengthening our democracy, educating citizens on issues of local and national importance, increasing the involvement of young people in the political process, and encouraging more women to run for office.

In 2017, Dr. Kamlani initiated a successful collaboration between the Greenwich League and the Case Method Project, founded by Harvard Business School Professor David Moss. This transformative project, piloted locally with Greenwich High School, brings HBS case method teaching to civics, government and US history classrooms in high schools around the country. By mid-2021, Dr. Kamlani’s scaling efforts had expanded the project’s reach through 115 League chapters to high schools in 33 states.

Dr. Kamlani is a founding board member of The Parity Partnership and its successor organization, the Institute for American Ideals. She is also a member of the International Women’s Forum of Connecticut.

In 2019, Dr. Kamlani received the Greenwich League’s prestigious Mary Award and a Connecticut General Assembly Citation in recognition of her community service and ongoing efforts in public policy education. She and her husband Suneel, a former investment banking executive, have been married for over 30 years and enjoy a shared interest in community engagement and public service.
