Dr. Shah was born in Northern California and moved to New Canaan, CT at the age of 6.  When she was 7 years old, she decided that she wanted to be a doctor, just like her grandfather, who was a highly revered doctor in India – he even took care of Mahatma Gandhi. After graduating from New Canaan High School, she attended the University of Pennsylvania where she completed a double major in Neurobiology and Psychology. She then attended Wake Forest Medical School before returning to the University of Pennsylvania to do her Internal Medicine Residency. This was followed by an Infectious Diseases fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center. She also received her Masters of Epidemiology at Columbia University Mailman School of Health. She is now a Board-Certified Infectious Diseases specialist and has been with Stamford Hospital for 10 years where she is the Director of Infectious Diseases and Hospital Epidemiologist. She has been a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society since 2007 and received the Rookie of the Year Award from the Stamford Hospital Department of Internal Medicine during her first year as an attending. She was awarded the President’s Award for Young Professional Achievement in Medicine from the GOPIO Organization in 2019. She also received the Fairfield County Medical Association Most Valuable Physician Award in the end of 2020.  She is an active member on numerous committees in the hospital as well as at the state level. She was also nominated and accepted as a member of Chief, a national women’s leadership group. She most recently received the prestigious Magida Award through the Fairfield County Medical Association.

Dr. Shah’s biggest support is her husband of 11 years, Sagar. They met at the University of Pennsylvania and have been together since 2008. He stays calm in the most stressful times and provides a sense of comfort when things feel out of control. He single-handedly took care of the kids and kept everyone’s spirits up when Dr. Shah was working endless hours at the hospital during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. They are blessed with three children, 2 boys – Sachin and Satya, and 1 girl – Sonali who keep them on their toes and provide a constant sense of excitement in the house.
